Fenced In

Y'all are gonna be so excited to hear that I purchased three necklaces today, none of which are a varying color or the now infamous bubble necklace (all from J.Crew, however).  I was so crazy about this outfit yesterday.  My mom is in town so we hosted a girls night for her that included sushi, drinks, and dancing.  I was sooooo happy to have worn wedges because I was on my feet for about 8 hours straight.  This bubble skirt probably isn't the most flattering skirt in the world, but it is extremely comfy. I love the high waist and am crazy about the color.

A little house news for you: check out the background... it's a fence!  I bought an older home and back on the '60's, it wasn't common to have a fence because it isolated you from your neighbors.  Call me crazy, but I don't want to share every little thing that goes on in my back yard with the rest of the town. Plus, the old man that sits on his back porch day and night, staring at my house must wonder why I am out there twirling around and smiling into a camera at 8 am every morning. Anyways, I'm sure that my girls are so happy to go outside on their own.  Walking around in the back yard with a leash can't be possibly be as fun as having the freedom to smell each and every inch of it.

Tomorrow we plan to go "boutique-ing".  There are several boutiques here in Dallas that I have been wanting to visit, but they are all in different areas of the city.  We've planned out a map of the ones we want to visit, stopping for lunch at a new spot, and dessert later.  I can't wait to share what I find!

What are y'all up to this weekend?

L'eau

Over the weekend it got hot.  Like really freakin' hot. Like my temperature gauge said 107/hell yesterday and I almost started crying.  Over the weekend, I decided to spring for a few lightweight chiffon tanks and dresses to keep me from melting.  Although I brought several home, this was the only keeper.  I was just too crazy about the color to let it go.

As a general rule of thumb, I don't buy inexpensive chiffon-y type shirts from discount stores like F21, H&M, etc.  I just don't have good luck with them.  They never fit right and they always end up falling apart after a couple washes. I used to have a sort of addiction to cheap tops and I gave myself an intervention because I realized that if I just saved and bought a more expensive, but better quality piece, it would last much longer.  Sometimes I stumble and I'm sure this one will be in the trash in a few weeks, but for $14.99. I'll take my chances.

Summertime

I finally received my yellow bubble necklace and, shocker, I'm totally smitten.  I find myself grabbing for the turquoise one almost daily and I'm sure y'all are about sick of looking at it.  When I find something I really, really love, I tend to buy it in multiples and the bubble necklace is just one of those things.

Today was the first really hot day here in Texas and shorts were a must.  I kind of have a love/hate relationship with shorts but they are a necessary evil in such a hot climate but I don't always feel super confident in them.  I've mentioned before that I have a really small waist but a big butt and legs, so my solution is always to buy shorts that are at least 2 if not 3 sizes bigger than my normal pant size.  I don't like the look of tight shorts and I hate for them to dig into my legs when I sit.  These shorts are a great fit for me because they actually zip on the side instead of having a normal zip fly and button. I also always leave or have the pockets sewn on most of my shorts so they don't gape open.  I'm not going to carry anything in the pockets anyway, so it's fine by me.

How do y'all feel about shorts?  I would almost always choose a dress or skirt instead, but I'm trying to be a little more open minded with my options.  Summertime is officially here!

Watercolor

It's amazing what happens when you have a closet big enough to actually see what you own!  I found this very springy skirt from J.Crew, tags still attached, in my neverending unpacking activities over the weekend.  The colors are gorgeous and I love the way it pops with the bubble necklace.  It was a little tough to take these photos in the morning light because of the shadows but they ended up looking really neat.

I made huge progress in the living room over the weekend and have chronicled it all.  Have a few loose ends to tie up before my mom arrives for a week long visit on Monday, but hopefully I will have a semi-finished product to show you guys by the weekend.

Also, not sure if you guys have heard of ANC Nails but I am totally loving them!  You can really see them in this post, so that's why I bring it up.  I have extremely thin, brittle nails that split and crack and nothing seems to cure it.  I eat healthy for the most part, have tried all kinds of vitamins, oils, biotin, nothing seems to help.  Gel and shellac eats right through my nails, acryllics are too fake, and regular polish is chipped off within a week.  One of my coworkers came to lunch with beautiful nails last week and I decided to try her nail place since I hadn't found one in my new hood that I cared for.  They actually paint your nails several times with top coat and dip them into colored powder.  After they do a few layers, they buff and clear coat.  I'm on week three and there hasn't been any problems at all.

Thrift of the Week - Ombre Hombre

Hey chickens!  Hope y'all are having a fabulous day! I love me some ombre and although I am absolutely terrified/fascinated with a dip dye DIY, I decided to settle for this lovely skirt at Goodwill a few weeks back.  The color was vibrant and the high waist is a great fit for me. I am super glad it's almost the freakin' weekend and have a ton of house stuff planned.  I've been working on the fireplace conversion as my first project, so I am super excited to show you guys how it turned out.  Just waiting for a few items to be delivered and I will have a pretty cool final product.

What do y'all have planned for the weekend?
