Thrift of the Week: Styled

As promised, here is the Thrift of the Week styled casually for the office.  It's quite a fussy skirt simply because, over the years, the lining has come apart from the rest of the garnet and it kept twisting the seams around.  Err... I was yanking at it all day long.  Easy fix, though!  This skirt has a gorgeous sheen to it and I can wait to pair it with something sassy for night.  A leather jacket?  Crisp blazer?  What would y'all put it with?  Suggestions, please!

Skirt: Valentino vintage (thrifted)
Shoes: Nine West (I got these for $50, but check out the real deal at $950!  STEAL)
Belt: NY&Co.
Bracelets: Vintage Hermes, Juicy Couture

Thrift of the Week & Sneak Peek: Valentino Silk Skirt

Hey guys!  I'm trying to be consistent with my "Thrift of the Week" posts since thrifting is such a huge part of my wardrobe, plus, it's on of my favorite things to do.  I thought it would be fun to do a little sneakity peek of how I wore it in advance of the styled post.

I found this skirt in the dead of winter but wasn't able to wear it until now. It's gorgeous winter white and not terribly forgiving, but I took a chance anyway.  It came with a huge stain on the rear, by split, but I soaked it in warm water and soap and that came right out.  I styled it for a warm and casual day at the office, but it can certainly go straight to night with something edgier.

When I find something like this, I always try to research the label and find out as much as I can about the era from which it came.  I cannot find any information about this particular label and from best guess is that it was made in the late 50's or early 60's before Valentino designed his famous V logo.  I made be totally off, but who cares.  All that matters is that it's gorgeous!  If you haven't seen the Valentino: The Last Emperor, and you love fashion, you definitely should take an evening to watch it.  It's absolutely fascinating and goes deep into the work and craftsmanship that the seamstresses put into his pieces.

Hope ya'll had a great month's end!  I am looking forward to some R&R this weekend.

Workday: Makeshift Peplum

I snagged this top at an Ann Taylor sale several months back and I found it still hanging in my closet with the tags on it.  After staring at it for 30 minutes, it occured to me that it had a peplum shape, one of the hottest trends this season.  I haven't fully committed to the peplum trend quite yet because I'm just not sure my body type will benefit from extra fabric in that particular area.  What do you guys think about it?  Has anyone tried it?  I think it looks absolutely gorgeous on a long and lean silhoette but for those of us who ate a full mini cheesecake for lunch who miss a workout every now and again, I'm not sure it's a great fit.

Top: Ann Taylor (old, but similar look w/o the peplum here for 19.88, then take addt'l 30% off all sale items today!
Trousers: Ann Taylor (old, but similar here for less than I paid for mine!)
Necklace: Thrifted, but I love this one at less than $30!
Glasses: Prada (this season's hot style here)
Bracelets: Juicy Couture, H&M
Heels: Banana Republic Mad Men Collection

Minty Fresh

I haven't been by Zara in awhile because, frankly, I have limited self control.  Against my better judgment, I went in last week and fell head over heels in love with this beautiful lace number.  It's so soft and goes perfect with the neon colors of the season.  I paired it with a simple coral braided belt and got several compliments at the Women's Club Annual Dinner.   I think it will work for a couple other events coming up, possibly my mother's bridal shower, and if I pair it with a blazer and closed toe pumps it can work for the office, as well.  Nothing like legitimizing a splurge with options!

Dress: Zara
Belt: H&M in store only, but super cute one here
Shoes: BCBG
Bag: Valentino
Bracelets: Ann Taylor, Juicy Couture, vintage Hermes

Hope your week is off to a good start!

A Woman's Right to Choo-se

This weekend, I had the pleasure of helping my mother with her wedding dress styling.  We had put everything together from the earrings to the shoes a few weeks back and were waiting for the dress itself to return from alterations.  We ran into a slight dilemna when the hem came back too high and her whole foot, albeit fabulously adorned with a a pair of Jimmy Choo Slingbacks, was on display for all the world to see.  There wasn't enough fabric left in the hem to let it down and this was evidently the last dress of its kind left on the planet (according to Nordstrom), so we had to make an adjustment in the shoe department.  It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the new Choo was an inch lower and a wedge, perfect for walking on grass and dancing all night. After steaming the dress, it was as perfect as it could be.

A quick shout out to Malin in the wedding boutique at Nordstrom North Park, who has been an absolute dream to work with and has put up with our cameras, entourage, and shenanigans over the past several weeks.  She knows her stuff, ladies, so if you need any type of assistance in the bridal department, she's your chick.

Here & Here

Gorgeous and practical, plus I can see these paired with skinny jeans and a blazer for dinner or drinks with the girls.  My trusty model, AKA, Little Sister modeled them for us.  Seriously, this kid can walk in a pair of tranny heels better than Naomi Campbell.  Look at those trendy yellow skinnies!  She phoned ahead to say that she "called" them and would appreciate if I didn't wear mine.  Yes ma'am!

Disclaimer: As much as I would love to claim her, she is, in fact, not my blood relative.  She is a baby fashionista in training and her mother is very, very proud.

Popover

Ever since I bought the Peyton Popover in Crepe de Chine from J.Crew, I can't stop imagining the possibilities.  It literally goes with everything!  It was way more than I tend to spend on a single blouse, but it is great quality, long (which I prefer), and only button 3/4's of the way down.  It looks dope with white, cobalt, yellow, denim, khaki, you name it.  I also think I could use it as a swimsuit cover up, paired with a fedora and sandals.  I've got spring fever for sure!

Blouse: J.Crew
Shorts: Forever 21
Wedges: Steve Madden
Bag: J.Crew
Belt: Target
Earrings: J.Crew Factory
Cuff: H&M
Bracelets: vintage Hermes, Juicy Couture

Have a great Sunday!
